Fantastic Fungi!

Let's get back to the basics. All life for us, land dwelling animals, starts with the soil. In this virtually unseen world, bacteria and fungi are the main characters. They are at the basis of transforming death into life, thus the cycle of life itself.

Fungi and bacteria bring, by decomposing dead material, nutrients back into the soil for the benefit of themselves, but also all other life. Today's focus is on the fungi, the third species occupying the earth, besides animals and plants. And they are fantastic! They challenge almost everything we believe in as human beings about intelligence and dominance.

Fantastic fungi are hardly to be found in our monoculture and mechanized form of agriculture, but are numerous in permaculture or ornamental gardens and absolutely teeming in (food) forests, providing us not only with healthy ecosystems, but also harvests that are rich in nutrients.
