Workshops Natural Gardening
Autumn - Winter - Spring
2025 - 2026

Welcome to the Natural Gardening Workshop

This is not an ordinairy garden workshop, but a journey to see the (natural) world around you from a different perspective. Hard work will become playing and your garden will become a basket full of opportunity, rather than a headache.

Workshops Natural Gardening - an overview

We’ll begin with a welcoming dive into the world of Natural Gardening. Expect a gentle, joyful mix of fundamental principles that apply to all garden types — from how soil dreams to how plants dance. It’s the ground beneath our feet and the thread that ties every garden story together.

With Wende — a queer gardener and landscape designer — as your guide, this workshop is both rooted and fluid. You’ll explore the art of Natural Gardening: grounded in ecosystems, enriched with creativity, and woven through with connection — to land, to self, and to each other.

The workshop takes place in the living classroom of Cento e Oito, a creative, off-gridd community in the Southwest of Portugal, where theory meets earth under your fingernails. You'll gain hands-on garden experience, feel the rhythms of the land, and leave with the confidence to start (or deepen) your own garden. During your stay you will be part of our off-grid community and eat with us.

By the end of these five days, you’ll know how to set up your own vegetable garden, food forest, and ornamental garden — and you’ll receive clear documentation to support your next steps.

“I love how Wende weaves together queer ecology, deep ecology and native wisdom.

She provides an indepth perspective on gardening rooted in

sustainable relationship between humans and nature.

Through her life experience she gracefully adresses the intersection between

gardening, politics and spirituality.

She shows how the garden teaches us about community building and celebrating diverstity.

She is a great storyteller and takes you along from a theoretical framework into

the practical details to apply in your garden.”
